Las Américas International Airport in the Dominican Republic has opened its new cargo terminal.

The new €14 million complex is a key component of VINCI Airports modernisation plan for the airport, which it has been responsible for operating and developing since 2016, along with five other gateways in the Dominican Republic.

It notes that the new terminal will facilitate the development of Dominican exports and will be occupied by FedEx, which is expanding its footprint and operation in the country.

According to VINCI Airports, the freight terminal boasts 6,800sqm of warehousing, offices and support facilities such as customs clearance and banking services.

“Rapid and reliable aviation capabilities are critical for export-led economies. VINCI Airports is proud to continue its partnership with the Dominican Republic with this new freight terminal serving the capital. It will support the country’s momentum by creating a new commercial hub for the Caribbean,” said Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions and chairman of VINCI Airports.
